Apple Pizza
My favorite things to make in the kitchen are dishes which are so easy that I can make them from memory without having to measure a single ingredient. Last week's Ice Cream Sandwich Casserole is a preferred choice for that reason, but this week's recipe also qualifies. This is one of my "go to" desserts when I'm traveling or visiting someone's home and I want to contribute to the meal. (Think beach or lake trip!)
Try it once and I bet it will become one of your favorites too!
Here's what you need:
- 1 puffed pastry sheet, defrosted
- 2 tart green apples (like Granny Smith or Pippins)
- 1-2 Tablespoons butter
Optional ingredients for toppings:
- Cinnamon & Sugar
- Vanilla Ice Cream
- Caramel Syrup
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Then begin by rolling out the puff pastry sheet on a floured surface. It should roll out to about the size of a medium cookie sheet (15ish x 10ish).Transfer the dough by folding in half and lifting onto the cookie sheet. Use your fingers to press the dough out to the edges. After you've finished arranging the dough, core, peel, and halve the apples. After the apples are peeled and halved, slice very thin half circles. If you have a mandolin or food processor, this is THE time to use it. Arrange the apples on the puff pastry sheet so the sheet is fully covered, overlapping as you go. The thinner the slices, the more you can overlap.Dab the apples with the butter which will help with the browning. If using, sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar.Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from oven and serve immediately. Although the pizza is perfectly tasty by itself, I can't resist adding a scoop of ice cream and a little caramel for decoration.
