Cafe Jonah
"Sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast."
Lewis Carroll
I'm in a season of life where breakfast is my only dependable window for getting together with friends. While I love the classic Atlanta "houses" (Waffle House and The White House), I'm always on the lookout for places with a little different take. West Egg Cafe is great, but the location is a tad far-flung for most of my breakfast dates.
Fortunately, one of my friends recently lead me to Cafe Jonah in Buckhead. I didn't have far to go, since the restaurant is directly across the street from my office!
I have passed this spot for years, but the lunch crowd always drove me away. The place is owned by Souper Jenny, a regular institution in the Buckhead lunch scene, but the menu is all its own.
The most gorgeous dish on the limited, but tasty menu, is the Roasted Vegetable Frittata served with a marinara sauce. Order this dish if you aren't planning on having lunch because it's definitely hearty!
If you're an oatmeal fan, you'll have a tough time beating Cafe Jonah's Steel-Cut Oats with Gogi berries, Flax and Chia seeds. (Of the Chia Pet fame??) You'll have a wide choice of toppings, so pay attention as the server rattles off the list: fruit, granola, honey, Greek Yogurt. I bounce around, but I think my favorite is the yogurt and honey. My final "go to" order is the Breakfast Sandwich. This scrumptious egg sandwich comes on a croissant, bagel, or biscuit, along with Cabot cheese, bacon or Proscuitto. Simply divine.
The "sides" change with the season, but so far my favorite is the slow-cooked apples with craisins. I'm a sucker for craisins. Be sure to remember to visit Tuesday - Friday. Cafe Jonah is closed on Mondays.
