Creativity & Faith
"Creativity requires faith. Faith requires we relinquish control." Julia Cameron
Have you ever seen a piece of art and wondered how the work went from idea to reality?
When looking at the painting/sculpture/video, have you ever thought, "What were they thinking? How did they ever imagine THAT??!!"
My favorite art always involves a touch of whimsy (which is part of the reason I enjoy giving my kids a canvas and a paint brush.) I love art that makes the ordinary EXTRAordinary. I'm inspired when someone creates something which makes me wonder why I never came up with the same idea.
Today's video makes me think these thoughts and more.
I don't know the story behind the video, but I've made one up in my mind!
The story begins with a British couple feeling more than a little sick of being cooped up in the cold. They go out for a walk and notice how their breath vapor catches the light in a funny way. One of them then wonders, aloud, if their Super 8 projector still works and wouldn't it be cool to put light onto their puffs of air. "Of course!" is the enthusiastic response, and they are off to the races.
I think inspired ideas happen spontaneously. My most creative insights happen when I worry less about being creative and, instead, show up and listen for the ideas. The work is then in the execution.
I think you'll like how this work is done! Be sure to watch for the dog at the end -- if their puppy is like mine, the close would have been the hardest part!

You've got a few more weeks of winter to try this yourself!
