Remember Memorial Day
Spirit, that made those heroes dare To die, and leave their children free, Bid Time and Nature gently spare The shaft we raise to them and thee. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson
I hope you're enjoying a long weekend: time with family and friends, the company of a good book, and rest. All of these pleasures we enjoy while living under the sweet umbrella of freedom. I don't know about you, but I don't stop nearly often enough to remember the price of that freedom or to pay tribute to those who fought for us.
Holiday weekends are for more than unwinding; they are for breathing in deeply and expressing joyful gratitude. Like many of you, I'll spend at least part of the day fighting traffic to get home and doing laundry to prepare for a new week. Sometimes that distracts me from the point of the day. However, today I'm determined to remember and to remind our kids about the heroes who have lived and died to keep our country free. Without their sacrifice, my concerns for the afternoon would be much greater than managing a few logistics.
I want to teach what I've been taught; to demonstrate gratitude by remembering those who have served our country.
