Quit More Often
“To allow oneself to be carried away by a multitude of conflicting concerns,to surrender to too many demands, to commit oneself to too many projects, to want to help everyone in everything, is to succumb to the violence of our times.” Thomas Merton
Calendar creep is real.
Even when I'm aware which of my decisions will fill the hours, days, and weeks, it's hard to prioritize.
The irony of my "say yes" disposition is how it only works when paired with a well-exercised "no" and a strong sense of boundaries.
I can't tackle every project. If I try and help everyone, I help no one. There are demands I won't meet, lunches unscheduled, coffee dates not made.
The extrovert in me dies a little with every missed opportunity.
Like any area of life, the healthy decisions aren't always fun.
Where are you over-committed? Have you surrendered to too many demands? Are you trying to stuff ten lbs of living into a five-lb sack?
Time to escape the violence.
What things add the most chaos to your calendar? Find one and quit.
Even if quitting hurts, more space helps.
