School's Out For Summer!
Believe it or not, tomorrow is the last day of school. Team Phenix is giddy with the idea of sleeping past 5:30, skipping the lunch packing routine, and getting some serious pool time. The flip-flops are purchased, the beach towels are washed, and the sunscreen spectrum (spf 4-50) is complete. However, we've discovered in order to kick the summer off right, we have to end the school year with a little tradition alongside the people we've been logging serious time with every morning in the wee hours; our bus stop neighbors.
I don't know who started the tradition, but when our eldest went to school as a kindergartner, we learned a neighborhood secret; the parents are mischievous. On the last day of school, all of the parents meet the bus with fully loaded water guns.
Then, when the kids get off Mr. Bobby's bus, all these water-gun toting parents make a mad dash to soak their newly-freed, summer-focused children (As an FYI, after the first year of this little stunt, the kids now know that it's coming, so they walk off the bus ready for action!)
Some of the older kids come back just to make sure they get in on the action.
The last couple of years Billy and I have been under-armed sporting those simple foam pumps. This year I bought something a little better.
Billy still thinks the fire power will be lacking. I won't be surprised if he upgrades us at some point between now and tomorrow.
No matter, I'm still pretty confident that we'll end up on the "winning" side.
We love making this memory for our kids. We just hope they aren't expecting us to do this all the way through college.
How do you ring "out" the school year?
