Starting Is The Hardest Part

Are you ever distracted by technology? Do you ever look to your computer, the software and apps, and hope that your next breakthrough is contained in that program?

Picasso famously said, "Inspiration exists, but it has to find us working."  For me "working" means three things:

1. Showing up  - even when I don't feel like it.

2. Following up - even when I'm not sure of the next steps.

3. Using what I have- even when what I have feels inadequate.

This means starting with the basics.

I love today's video because for all of the fancy, beautiful,  hi-tech shenanigans at a person's disposal, this design student recognizes where the magic begins; with pencil and paper.

Director - Elias Freiberger - http://www.eliasfreiberger.at Music & sound design - Echoic - www.echoicaudio.com We really enjoyed working on this beautiful film from Elias. Here's some words from him "Design Starts Here is my graduation project for the MA Graphic Moving Image course at London College of Communication. From my research into the motion design and graphic design industries, I have often discovered that many people place too much of an emphasis on software. I wanted to express in my short film how good design is in fact about coming up with ideas – that often start from pencil and paper – not just the tools at your disposal."

Where do you need to show up?

How is your follow up?

Are you leveraging what you have or distracted by bells and whistles?
