The List: Heirloom Market BBQ
If you're looking for great BBQ in Atlanta, several spots always show up on the "must eat" lists: Sams No. 1 BBQ, Community BBQ, Fox Brothers, and Heirloom BBQ. All of them have their strengths and distinguishing between them may be a matter of personal preference.
However, the buzz around Heirloom BBQ has been strong for a couple of years PLUS their Georgia meat sampler entry on The List meant I was expecting great things. One rainy evening I dragged the family to this little spot, waited in line, and then sat at one of a dozen seats along the wall for our meal.
The reviews were decidedly mixed.
Billy and I split the Georgia Sampler and absolutely loved the ribs. The Korean dry-rubbed spices on these babies was FANTASTIC! Next time I go, I'll be ordering a full plate. In a similar, though less enthusiastic way, we were pleased with the moist, perfectly cooked chicken. However, the brisket was over-cooked and dry. Maybe it was a bad night, but this was a huge disappointment.I loved the spicy mac & cheese, but the kids turned their noses up at the new take on the classic side dish. You might think twice before serving to your less-than-adventurous-eating kids.Just when it looked like our kids weren't going to eat, my son assembled a french fry sandwich. Ahem - - I am so proud. There's always healthy eating tomorrow! For those of you who love Heirloom Market, what do we need to try next time? I'd love to know!
