The List: Ria's Bluebird
“One should not attend even the end of the world without a good breakfast.”Robert Heinlein
The people in Atlanta have excellent restaurant choices, but for those who live south of Midtown, this is especially true! Last weekend I met one of my favorite foodies, Lindsay, for breakfast at Ria's Bluebird to tackle a list item.
Based on the wait at the door, I realized I was late to the party. Ria's is a regular hot spot!! The List item is Ria's version of biscuits and gravy. The menu describes the dish as, "Country fried tempeh ("soybean stuff") with homemade gravy, grilled tomato, sauteed kale on top of a buttermilk biscuit."
The picture doesn't begin to do the dish justice.
The gravy is perfect, neither too thick nor salty. Plus, the addition of kale and tomatoes makes you feel better about all of the starch. Lindsay had the shrimp & grits - and they were delicious too.
I can't wait to go back!
Plus, and this may be my favorite thing of all, Ria's serves legit Irish Breakfast Tea. As a non-coffee drinker in America, I rarely find a place that honors the teetotaler; Ria's is a notable exception. (As is Empire State South)
