Use What You Have
“Thanks to my mother, not a single cardboard box has found its way back into society. We receive gifts in boxes from stores that went out of business twenty years ago.”Erma Bombeck
The landfill in this video, and indeed EVERY landfill, reminds me of the Spanish proverb, "Abundance of things engenders disdainfulness." What else could a landfill represent except a reproach against the sheer volume of stuff we have?
Well, as it turns out, a landfill can represent a whole lot more.
This is the story of people who live on the landfill and make something useful from cast-offs. Not only do they redeem "stuff," they redeem people; from the man who is now making instruments to the children who are performing, the story is about so much more than recycling.
If this doesn't inspire you to re-frame the usefulness of everything and everyone around you, well, you need to go back to bed and take a nap!
Remember to use what you have and who you are to the fullest!!
