What Happens When You See Success Through Loss

"I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everyone." Bill Cosby

TED talks are not all created equal.

Some talks reframe your willingness to be vulnerable -- I'm looking at you Brene Brown.

Other talks inspire you to reshape your physical posture - thank you Amy Cuddy.

And still others make you want to get rid of your stuff  - Graham Hill owns that distinction.

My most recent discovery comes from philosopher Alain de Botton, and while not as organized as those other talks, his opinions are both challenging and insightful.

His most clear insight is the simple idea that no one can be successful at everything.  Success always involves trade-offs with things you won't do well. "Any vision of success has to admit what it's losing out on."

For every element of life where we are succeeding, we should recognize where we are not succeeding, or choosing to lose.

Check it out.
