What Not To Watch

“There are many things of which a wise man might wish to be ignorant” Ralph Waldo Emerson

Yesterday at 3:22, my twitter feed started chirping like mad.

I changed computer tabs and saw the news of the Boston explosions.  Suddenly knew I was going to resist turning on the television for hours, if not days.

Can you relate?

I seem to have hit the saturation point on news. My tolerance level for the speculation, the "expert" interviews, the still shots with an underlying voiceover is practically non-existent.

It's not that I'm cynical; I'm just tired of the relentless outpouring of words.

I'm sad. Shhhhh. I just want some quiet to process and think about what's been lost; to consider what has happened; to feel.

In our era of instant communication,  I'm deciding to be more "Emerson-esque" and choosing, at least for the moment, to stay ignorant of the minute-by-minute developing news. For the moment, I don't need to know much more.

I know enough to weep for the brokenness of this world and the evil that delivers such cruelty.

I know enough to pray for those who are hurt and those who have lost a family member.

I know enough to ask God for comfort, for healing, for peace.

How will you spend the day?

I hope you can find some quiet.
