Working with your heart
“He who works with his hands is a laborer. He who works with his hands and his head is a craftsman. He who works with his hands and his head and his heart is an artist.”St. Francis of Assisi
I don't know anyone who dreams of being a laborer, of living like a cog in a wheel churning out the next task.
Work is honorable and good. It's not a punishment; we are most fulfilled when we are working to our full potential.
We are designed to be artists, working with all of our dimensions. We are meant to work with our hands, head, and heart. That's why when we show up and give less than our all, we feel diminished.
When I watch this video, while I can''t relate to the skills of the cobbler, I am in awe of the artistry. There are no short cuts in making fine shoes.
I find the process utterly fascinating.
Even in a business setting, which is not, strictly speaking, "working with my hands," I want my work to be this unique, distinctive, AMAZING.
Don't you?
