Random Learnings, Part 5
Life is full of all sorts of little surprises. Of course, most of the time I am zooming past the fun details, but when they catch my attention, I’ve started gathering them up to share the observations with you. (Click numbers to see installments One, Two, Three, and Four) Here’s the latest:
New in the Logo Hall of Fame
Have you ever noticed the Amazon logo’s subtle suggestion that they carry a wide assortment of products? When you pay attention, you’ll see Amazon has everything from A to Z. (Almost as great as the arrow in Fed Ex!)
More Ways Men and Women Are Different
According to Robert Province in his book “Curious Behavior,” men yawn more than women because of their testosterone levels. Huh?! In the "less surprising" category, men are 10 times more likely to be color blind than women.
Canada's Pirate Invasion
I’ve only been in a theater a couple of times in Canada, but during both films when the “anti-copying” legal language shows up on the film, a smattering of people start saying, “argggg!!!” (Like pirates!) Awesome!! Of course my Canadian friends need to weigh in on whether this is a trend at large or something particular for the Toronto Film Festival!
Happy Birthday Oreo!!
Did you know Oreo is celebratimg 100 years? Wow. Apparently the folks at Nabisco are embracing the new century by creating as many different variations of the cookie as possible. Well done!!
Posture Matters
The directors of fashion runway events request all front row attendees to sit with their legs uncrossed during the show. Apparently, crossed legs distract from the clean line of the runway and distract from the clothes. Much of the time people comply with the request, though if you’re Heidi Klum, no one’s going to complain about the distractions.
Tea Time
Years ago I watched a Biography on Queen Elizabeth, and they showed a clip where she was at a dinner event speaking with Ronald Reagan. Reagan was dipping his tea bag into his cup and the Queen politely, but pointedly informed the President that dipping a tea bag causes the tea to be bitter. He laughed and the moment passed. However, I’ve never dipped my tea bag again!
Amazing Eyeballs
Did you know people generally read 25% slower from a computer screen than from a printed page? It's true. I read it on-line (that's a reliable reference, right?!). I also read that the eyeball is the only organ that can function at 100% of its ability any time of the day or night without rest. Pretty cool.
What random facts have you learned this week? Please share! I'm starting a collection!!
